History rolls into Marshall’s Yard with return of popular tractor event
10 June 2024
History will roll into Marshall’s Yard this weekend as the popular vintage tractor rally makes a welcome return.
Thousands of visitors are expected to gather at the
Gainsborough-based shopping centre to marvel at more than 20 original Marshall
Tractors and steam engines.
This should make for the family perfect day out – and perhaps a
special Father’s Day treat – on Sunday, June 16, between 10am and 4pm.
The annual tractor rally has been a regular feature at the
shopping centre ever since it first opened in 2007 and gives
shoppers and visitors the chance to step back in time with a fantastic display
of vehicles manufactured at the Yard spanning nearly 200 years of history.
The award-winning shopping centre is named after
William Marshalls who founded the factory on the 16-acre site in 1848, which
specialised in steam engines and agricultural machinery.
Organised by the Marshall’s Yard team and the
Marshall’s Club, the event will finish with the traditional drive through
Gainsborough.
Melissa Cutforth, Centre
Manager at Marshall’s Yard, said: “This is such a special event for the team at
the centre and the community as a whole and is the perfect way of paying
tribute to the rich history of the centre.
“We cannot wait to welcome
visitors into Marshall’s Yard to marvel at these amazing vehicles.”
In addition to the vintage vehicles on
display, visitors can also enjoy free face painting, a tractor-themed scavenger
hunt and craft activities, ice cream and a crepe vendor.
The event is part of a bumper weekend of fun activities at the centre.
The Saturday also sees the return of the GO Festival, organised by West Lindsey District Council, which will showcase talented performers from across the area in Gainsborough town centre.
Marshall’s Yard will be supporting the free event by hosting free face painting from noon to 3pm and a live performance by Lee Douglas from noon to 2pm.
In addition, visitors are in for a real treat as the Rhubard Theatre will be bringing their Safari So-Goody! performance to the centre at 2.30pm, which will feature their ever-popular camel walk about.
