The Search is On For Gainsborough’s Best Bakes

13 May 2019

Gainsborough is preparing to host its first three-day Food & Garden Festival in June and the weekend event will feature the town’s very own version of the “Bake Off.”

The event takes place on 7th, 8th and 9th of June and will feature more than 60 stalls selling hot food to go from around the globe, local produce and Dutch Flowers on Tour as well as a host of other gardening themed stalls.

There will be live cookery theatre taking place in the Market Place throughout the day on Saturday with Michelin Star TV Chef, Jean-Christophe Novelli and Gainsborough’s local chefs from Adam’s Bay, Root, Prezzo and The Clockhouse.

And the event organisers from Marshall’s Yard are also calling out to local amateur cooks to get involved with the town’s “Big Bake Off”, which is kindly sponsored by Gainsborough’s newest car dealership, Wilson & Co.

Whether it be cakes, loaves or buns, bakers of all ages can get involved and are asked to bring their entries to the Information stand in the Market Place by 4pm on Saturday 8th June where Jean-Christophe Novelli himself will be helping out with the judging.

The event will take place across the whole town and is being organised in partnership with West Lindsey District Council, Gainsborough Town Council, RR Events and the team from Marshall’s Yard.

Everything including delicious cheeses, locally produced meat, fresh fish, pickles, fudge and cakes will be lining the streets throughout the town as well as a number of food to go stalls offering local dishes from around the globe will be available including Greek, Indian, Chinese, German sausages, Paella, Crepes and exotic game.

A number of craft stalls will also be standing as part of the regular monthly Farmers’ & Craft Market which launched on Market Street in April.

The event will also feature garden experts demonstrating top tips for the garden this summer and Dutch Flowers on Tour will be filling the Marshall’s Yard’s fountain area with an impressive display of shrubs, perennials and bedding plants.

There will also be an outside bar, prosecco bar, cider bar and flavoured gins and vodkas on offer into the evening for people to enjoy al fresco in the sunshine.

Centre Manager at Marshall’s Yard, Alison Shipperbottom, said: “We are really excited about the Gainsborough Food & Garden Festival and we want the community to really get involved so we’re putting a call out for everyone to get baking for our special version of Bake Off.”

There will be three categories for people to enter; Best Decorated Cake (children’s entry), Best Gluten Free Cake/Loaf (adult entry) and Best Victoria Sponge where both children and adults can enter.

On Sunday Britain’s Got Talent’s Madame Zucchini will be joined by CBeebies presenter, Katy Ashworth, for more demonstrations and entertainment.
