New look Farmers and Craft Market Launch Success!

16 April 2019

More than twenty traders joined the line up at the newly re-launched Farmers’ and Craft market on Gainsborough’s Market Street on Saturday – and the crowds and sunshine turned out to support them.

Both old and new producers took part in the market with a fantastic range of locally produced food and handmade crafts from the monthly event’s events new location on Market Street, linking Marshall’s Yard shopping centre with the towns’ Market Place where the twice weekly market is held.

Town Crier Roger Merrett was on hand to officially launch the market in its new location and the displays put on by the traders really gave him something to shout about.

Redhill Farm, Ellis Fruit and Veg and Pickles Preserves were joined by new popular favourites, Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese and Mount Pleasant Bakery. A hog roast stall. Crafters including Good with Wood and Made in Lincolnshire also joined the line-up.

Free balloons and face painting were on offer for younger shoppers as well as a visit from Peter Rabbit, there was also live music from Lewis Canner.

The relocation of the Farmers’ Market is part of a joint initiative coordinated by Marshall’s Yard with West Lindsey District Council.

Many town centre retailers reported positively on the new monthly event and were encouraged by the increased footfall to the town. Efforts will now be made by the team at Marshall’s Yard working jointly with West Lindsey District Council to attract more general traders to fill up the twice weekly market in the Market Place.

Next month’s Farmers’ and Craft Market will take place on the 11th May with even more new traders joining including fresh fish and barista coffee. Peter Rabbit will return along with the free face painter and live music.

In June the markets will be further supported by a fantastic three-day Food and Garden Festival across the town, featuring tasty treats from around the globe and live cookery demonstrations from celebrity chef’s such as Jean Christophe Novelli and CBeebies Katie Ashworth as well as some of Gainsborough’s local chefs.

Cara Thornhill, Assistant Centre Manager of Marshall’s Yard and part of the team coordinating the markets said: “It was a great turn out on Saturday both from traders and shoppers and we couldn’t have wished for better weather.

The new location worked well in terms of drawing people to this area and linking Marshall’s Yard with the town centre.

“We’re really excited to welcome even more traders to next month’s market and absolutely thrilled that all traders did so well and want to return, it was lovely to hear so many lovely comments from shoppers.

“We hope that residents and visitors to the town will continue to support the local market and this encourages further traders to give the weekly market a try this summer.”
