Gainsborough Serves up an Ace Weekend of Tennis and Foodie Fun

7 July 2019

The Farmers’ and Craft Market returns to its new location on Market Street in Gainsborough this Saturday (13th July) with a full line up of traders.

Market goers will be able to enjoy free face painting, live music and a full market with plenty of fresh local produce as well as homemade crafts on offer.

As well as this, shoppers can also enjoy watching the Wimbledon finals on the big screen in the fountain area at Marshall’s Yard. Bottle & Carriage will be standing offering a glass of fizz, Pimms or Peroni to tennis fans throughout the whole weekend.

New traders joining the market this week include Sarah’s Sweet Treats who shoppers may have visited at the Food & Garden Festival, Sarah offers a wide range of homemade cakes and cupcakes.

Regular traders including Redhill Farm, Ellis Fruit and Veg, Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese, Mount Pleasant Windmill, Patrick Capps Fresh Fish and Pickles Preserves. Craft stalls include Good with Wood, Plop Creations, Wild Rose Soap and Tooth & Tail.

There will also be live music and free face painting on offer as well as a visit from Peter Rabbit.

The relocation of the Farmers’ Market is part of a joint initiative coordinated by Marshall’s Yard with West Lindsey District Council.

Last month local producers were joined by a huge three-day Continental Street Market which showcased tasty treats from around the globe and live cookery demonstrations from celebrity chef’s Jean Christophe Novelli and CBeebies Katie Ashworth as well as some of Gainsborough’s local chefs.

Dutch Flowers on tour and a local gardening expert also had a display at Marshall’s Yard contributing towards the towns first ever Food & Garden Festival.

Alison Shipperbottom, Centre Manager of Marshall’s Yard and part of the team coordinating the markets said: “Last month the three day Food & Garden Festival was a great success with footfall stats recording an increase of over 37% on the same weekend in 2018 this was despite torrential down pours throughout most of the weekend. We’re very pleased that our local traders had this boost and a combined a great event was held for the town.  The new location is working well in terms of drawing people to this area and linking Marshall’s Yard with the town centre.

“We hope that residents and visitors to the town will continue to support the local market and this encourages further traders to give the weekly market a try throughout the summer and in the run up to Christmas.”
