Gainsborough gears up for BIG Christmas Lights Switch On

6 November 2018

Gainsborough is getting ready for the town’s big Switch On as Marshall’s Yard and the Market Place join together for a fabulous line up of festive entertainment.

The event draws thousands of families to the area for the biggest event of the year in Gainsborough. For 2018 crowds will gather for live music and performances, fairground rides, a food and craft market and Santa’s spectacular stunning firework display.

Live acts in the town’s Market Place start from 4pm with Christmas songs from the Castle Wood Academy Primary School and Frances Olive Anderson Primary School as well as Violinist Sophie Jane and Rock cover band Tripdown Project.

The lights will be turned on at 6pm by the Citizen of the Year, representatives from WLDC and the Mayor of Gainsborough.

Marshall’s Yard line-up includes singers Leanne Fothers, Emily Toward and an Acoustic set from Damian Dalton-Smith followed by Christmas songs from a fabulous Michael Buble tribute.

The Marshall’s Yard lights will be turned on by the cast of Sleeping Beauty and the  winner of the Facebook Christmas Lights competition at 7pm which will be followed by Santa’s spectacular firework display to conclude the evening.

There will also be street entertainers, Disney characters and free face painting throughout the evening for families to enjoy, Plus Santa will make a special stop before he begins his Christmas journey.

Centre Manager at Marshalls Yard, Alison Shipperbottom said: “We have a great line up this year, lots of activities and events throughout the evening to start the Christmas season here in Gainsborough.
“We’ve worked really hard to bring the Christmas spirit to town and we really hope everyone has a fantastic evening.”
