Gainsborough enjoys three day Continental Street Market this August Bank Holiday.

3 September 2020

Shoppers turned out for Gainsborough’s three-day Continental Street Market which took place over the Bank Holiday Weekend (29th, 30th and 31st August).

Stalls located in the town centre and Marshall’s Yard offered a variety of tastes from around the world including foods from Greece, and Germany as well as Asian and Italian dishes - there were also sweet treats, children’s rides and fresh produce from local traders.

The weather remained dry and pleasant across the three-day event, enabling visitors to make the most of the delicious produce available.

The outdoor event adhered to all social distancing guidelines, which included widely spaced stalls, sanitising stations and queuing systems.

The weekend’s event was organised in partnership with West Lindsey District Council, Gainsborough Town Council, RR Events and the team from Marshall’s Yard.

Cllr Keith Panter the Mayor of Gainsborough and Chairman of Gainsborough Town Council, said: “It was great to see that the market was well attended. The weather was good and there was a great atmosphere. After such a difficult year it was wonderful to see Market Place come to life.”

Charlotte Toplass, Marshall’s Yard Tenant Liaison Executive, said: “The market was a success and it was great to see increased footfall in both Marshall’s Yard and the town centre.

“The market created a lovely atmosphere and definitely lifted the mood of everyone. The feedback from both traders and the public has been extremely positive.”

John McInnes, Chief operating Officer at RR Events, said: “We are grateful for the people of Gainsborough and beyond for coming out to support our Continental Street Market event over the Bank Holiday weekend. We received some really positive feedback from the general public and the traders enjoyed it. We hope to return to Gainsborough again in the future and continue our working relationship with Marshall’s Yard and West Lindsey District Council."

The market was held in addition to the monthly Farmers’ Market which is held on the second Saturday of every month in Market Place, Gainsborough.
