Crowds turn out in their thousands for Gainsborough’s big Christmas Lights Switch On

19 November 2018

Gainsborough’s big Christmas Lights Switch On Event attracted thousands of people to the area on Friday (November 16th)  – kicking off a busy schedule of festive events in the town.

Crowds gathered for a fantastic line up of live music and performances from a range of acts across two stages in what has become the town’s biggest event of the year.

The Switch On also featured fairground rides, food and craft market and Santa’s spectacular stunning firework display which followed the switch on at Marshall’s Yard.

The Town Centre also hosted fairground rides, market traders and performances from both Castlewood Academy and Frances Olive Anderson Primary School, followed by live music from Emily Shepherd and The Tripdown Project. The countdown was hosted by Lincs FM with Citizen of the Year, Michelle Page turning the lights on at 6pm.

The Marshall’s Yard line-up included singers Leanne Paige, Emily Toward and The Torn followed by Christmas songs from a fabulous Michael Buble tribute.

Crowds were entertained by the ‘Baby Shark’ song and actions from Fergal, the Gainsborough Trinity Mascot which the visitors joined in with.

The countdown again hosted by Lincs FM, Santa and the cast Of Sleeping Beauty and the Yard’s very special guest Fabian Bott, who was nominated by the public to turn the lights on for his fundraising achievements for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

After a seamless countdown the lights were switch on at the Yard at 7pm and the crowds were treated to a fabulous fireworks display.

Centre Manager at Marshalls Yard, Alison Shipperbottom, said: “Thank you to everyone who came along and made the event extra special this year. It’s a really big night for Gainsborough and it was lovely to see the whole town coming together. The firework display was stunning and we have had so many lovely comments.”

Next weekend the Yard will be hosting the Coca Cola Truck Tour on Saturday 24th November and Sunday 25th November. Check the Marshall’s Yard website for more details about the event www.marshallsyard.co.uk
