Crowds turn out for Gainsborough’s first Food and Garden Fest!

10 June 2019

Hundreds of people turned out over the weekend for a fantastic three days of delicious food, demonstrations and activities for Gainsborough’s first ever Food and Garden Festival.

The three-day event ran from Friday until Sunday at venues across the town centre with a packed programme of entertainment as well as more than 50 continental food traders alongside the town’s monthly Farmer’s Market line up.

Cooking demonstrations ran throughout the day on Saturday with local Gainsborough chefs taking to the stage as well as the Michelin Award Winning Chef Jean-Christophe Novelli who prepared some delicious dishes, giving visitors some expert cooking tips.

The weekend also featured special gardening demonstrations. Katie Ashworth from BBC children’s show “I Can Cook” and Madame Zucchini from Britain’s Got Talent also entertained the crowds.

Throughout the event Dutch Flowers on Tour also had their stunning display at Marshall’s Yard.

The festival was organised in partnership with West Lindsey District Council, Gainsborough Town Council, RR Events and the team from Marshall’s Yard and attracted hundreds of shoppers and visitors into the town.

A special Gainsborough Bake Off Competition was also held as part of the festival judged by Jean-Christophe as well as the town’s Mayor Cllr Keith Panter and WLDC’s Cllr Lesley Rollings.

Centre Manager at Marshall’s Yard, Alison Shipperbottom, said: “We are delighted with the turnout and the feedback we have had from the event – it really does show what can be achieved when we all work together to promote Gainsborough and put on a great event across the whole town.

“It was lovely to see the town so busy and bustling and we’d like to thank everyone who helped make the event such a great success.”

The team at Marshall’s Yard are now preparing for this weekend’s Father’s Day event on Sunday when more than 20 traditional Marshall's Tractor Engines will visit the yard for their annual rally.
