Christmas gets underway with Gainsborough's big lights switch on event

6 November 2017

The team at Marshall’s Yard are gearing up ready to launch this year’s festivities once again, with a joint event to light up the whole town for Christmas.

On the 17th November the town will host two stages and the biggest Christmas fire work display seen for miles. On stage will be a line-up of quality singers including Ariana Grande and Beyonce tribute acts and well-known local band, The Torn.

Other local talent acts on stage will include Phoebe Walker, Leanne Page, Acoustic State and The Studio Dance School kicking off with carols by the Castle Wood Academy pupils.

Walking around the town will be two transformers as well as festive stilt walkers, Disney Frozen’s Princess Elsa and Olaf and of course Santa who will also be switching the lights on with Lincs FM and other guests including characters from the local theatre company’s production of Dick Whittington plus our lucky competition winner.

Free horse and carriage rides with Disney’s Belle from Beauty and the Beast will be available as well as free face painting and body glitter ready to take that perfect selfie at our Christmas themed selfie station.

The lights will switch on at 6pm in the town centre and 7pm in Marshall’s Yard with brass band performances in between by the Gainsborough Salvation Army. A food and craft market will be held on Market Street from 12 noon, linking the two venues and the two sites will host a large choice of fairground rides.

Alison Shipperbottom, Centre Manager for Marshall’s Yard, said: “This is our most favourite time of year and we love seeing the whole town lit up for Christmas it really helps get everybody into the festive spirit. We’ve tried to top last year’s event with even more variety on stage, two really good quality tribute acts and of course the impressive firework display. There’s something for all the family this year and shops will be open late until 8pm.”

The following week the coca cola truck comes to town on Thursday 23rd November from 11am until 7pm – Gainsborough really is the place to spend your Christmas this year!
