DN21 Award winners announced in a glittering ceremony in Gainsborough

1 June 2017

The winners of Gainsborough’s 2017 DN21 Awards were announced last night in a fantastic ceremony held to celebrate the town’s diverse and thriving business community.

250 people attended the special event which was held at The Blues Club in Gainsborough. The event was staged for the third year following it's success over the last two years as a partnership between the town’s Marshall’s Yard shopping centre and Gainsborough Trinity Football Club.

More than 100 entries were received and judged with ten awards presented throughout the evening – recognising local firms for their business growth and customer service as well as their innovation and community engagement.

An eleventh award was also presented to Riverside Training by Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties which developed and still owns and manages Marshall's Yard.

As Marshall's Yard celebrates it's 10th Birthday this year Mr Dransfield wanted to pay recognition to the company which was the first to take space in the new office units created at the centre when it opened - Riverside Training are still tenants today and have grown their business at The Yard.

The event was also chance to reflect on how far the town has come but also to celebrate future developments with exciting new plans for a hotel in the town centre approved by West Lindsey District Council the same week.

The winner of the prestigious Retailer of the Year Award, which is decided through a public vote and sponsored by Pygott & Crone, was the department store Browns which opened at Marshall's Yard five years ago this August.

BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s breakfast show presenter Scott Dalton hosted the evening. The judges carried out a series of interviews, research, reviews of applications and mystery shopping exercises before reaching their decisions.

Centre Manager at Marshall’s Yard, Alison Hall said: "The DN21 Awards, now in it's third year, just keeps growing and growing and we were staggered by the response. We had to squeeze in an extra 60 people this year and all tables were booked up fast. It is great to see the town come together and celebrate the great success stories we have here.

“We’ve been absolutely delighted with both the standard of the entries and the enthusiasm from the town’s businesses to get involved. DN21 really does have some fantastic businesses led by some very talented people and it’s great to have this opportunity to recognise that through these awards.”

Gainsborough Trinity FC Chairman, Richard Kane, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who has helped to make this event such a great success as well as all the businesses in the town who put forward their nominations. We had some great entertainment to kick start the event from The Studio and many businesses got involved to help make the venue look as good as it did including Blush Venue Décor, The Florist at Marshall's Yard, Sweet Traditions and more. The standard was extremely high and our judges came away very impressed by what Gainsborough has to offer."
