Local artist to judge Gainsborough’s aspiring talents!

Local artist Marcus Hammond will be casting his expert eye over the town’s youngest artistic talent next weekend when he judges the Marshall’s Yard Easter colouring competition, which has seen hundreds of local schoolchildren submit entries.

Marcus and members of the Marshall’s Yard Management Team will be judging the entries at Marshall’s Yard on Monday, March 24 at 12.00.  Ten schools have taken part in the competition and all the entries will be on display at Marshall’s Yard, in the retail store between Claire's and The Works, from Thursday, 20 March onwards.

Marcus runs the Bend in the River which showcases the region’s finest artistic talent.  The gallery recently found itself on the international art stage when it was invited to attend last year's London Art Fair – one of only five regional art centres outside of the capital to be involved.

He is currently working on the revitalisation of St John's Church on Ashcroft Road.  'Slumgothic' Teenage Arts Project is one of the key projects at what is now called x-church and new members are always welcome.  For further information see www.slumgothic.co.uk.

Janet Linfoot, Centre Manager said:  “It is a real honour for somebody with Marcus’s credentials to take part in the judging of the competition, The standard of entries has been really high, and we know it is going to be difficult to pick some overall winners."
